Supervisors play a critical role in any organization. They have the difficult task of maintaining a productive work environment, organizing employee performance and promoting employee development. As your EAP provider, we want to be a vital resource and partner in your supervisory efforts. We share the common goal of creating a productive and healthy workforce. As professionals trained in the areas of psychology, social work, chemical dependency, marriage and family therapy, organizational development and management consultation, the EAP staff can bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to working with employees. Specifically, we offer three avenues for partnering with supervisors.

Suggested vs. Requested Supervisory ReferralsMost EAP referrals from supervisors can be suggestions to the employee, requiring no additional follow-up by supervisors. We call these Suggested Referrals. Suggested referrals provide the greatest privacy for employees, thus enabling them to more openly disclose and benefit from EAP services.
However, if an employee's performance is so problematic that a corrective action plan is necessary, an EAP referral may be required. In such cases, attending EAP sessions can become a component of this corrective action plan. We call these Requested Referrals. To facilitate this process and ensure effective communication between all parties involved, the EAP has developed two specific forms for making a Management Requested Referral. The first is a Management Requested Referral Form which is used to provide the EAP Staff information about the employee and performance problems. The second form is an Authorization for Disclosure or Exchange of Information which the employee must sign in order to consent to the exchange of information between the EAP staff and the supervisor. We hope you will find these forms convenient and useful in coordinating feedback between the EAP, the employee and yourself.
3. Educational Seminars, Organizational Interventions and DebriefingsIn addition to employee services, the EAP offers direct consultation with supervisors. Whether it be questions about how to address employee conflicts, foster morale, motivate performance or understand employee behavior, the EAP can offer supervisors an outside perspective based on their expertise in human and organizational behavior. Our goal is to be your partner in reaching a healthy and productive workforce. We are here to provide you the tools and resources necessary for your success. All consultations are confidential. To receive a supervisory consultation, just call the EAP at 930-0884. Consultations can be done by phone or in-person if so desired.
